Notoriety Lends Interest

Back in 2015 I wrote about the Turpins and their watchmaking.

At that time I had been unable to find any examples of Benjamin Turpin's work.  A movement has now however turned up with Pete at Cogs and Pieces, (an excellent watch dealer in my experience, offering good value for money).

Well worth a look, I feel, especially as the Turpin's story is an interesting one, with plenty of scandal and intrigue.

  1. Could you tell me anything about how to value a Railway Time Keeper by Turpin Brothers London? Ours has 3469 on the face (white with red and black writing and a 60 second sweep). It is in the original gold case which is embossed with T-H and the same 3469. There are also two symbols which look like a book and a shield.

If it is of interest, I have a great deal of information about the provenance. Thanks in advance!

  2. Hello Jonathan. I'm not a dealer in watches and have no specialist knowledge regarding values in the current market - sorry. I'm guessing you're in the U.S., and, if so, I'd suggest you consult one of the specialising auction houses there - Jones and Horan, for instance, an excellent and friendly firm in my own experience. I hope you can find a good answer to your enquiry and wish you all the very best. Regards. David.
